Echinacea purpurea - Purple Coneflower
Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is a popular perennial, and very easy to grow. It has smooth stems and rough scattered leaves that become smaller toward the top of the stem. The long-lasting, showy flowers form atop the stems with purple rays that droop from a domed, spiny center. In late summer the flower rays fall off, and the domed, center seedhead turns brown with maturity. Echinacea species are used to make a popular herbal tea that is marketed to help strengthen the immune system.

ECHINACEA (CONEFLOWER):
Echinacea is a genus of flowering plants with 10 different species, and are commonly called coneflowers. They are native to eastern and central North America, and prefer moist to dry prairies. They consist of distinct, large composite flowers that bloom during the summer. The genus name is derived from the Greek word "ekhinos," meaning hedgehog, due to their spiny central disk. Coneflowers are well adapted to compete in grass prairies due to their deep taproots that help with the occurrence of grazers, fires, and the lack of water during the summer months. These plants have been used in traditional medicines by Native Americans, and are currently sold in a wide range of alternative medicinal products, but there is insufficient scientific evidence to show they are effective towards improving health or treating any disease.
Returns of standard seed mixes and individual species must be made in the original unopened packaging within 10 days of delivery. If you wish to return live plants, you must do so within 5 days of delivery. Returns of standard mixes, individual species, and live plants are subject to a restocking fee of 25%. Custom seed mixes may not be returned. When returning non-damaged goods, the buyer is responsible for shipping charges, and return shipping may be made by whatever means the buyer selects.
