Penstemon grandiflorus - Large-flowered Beardtongue
Large-flowered Beardtongue (Penstemon grandiflorus) is a showy perennial with unbranched, smooth stems, and opposite, blue-green, waxy clasping leaves. The large, two inch lavender, tubular flowers extend horizontally on short stalks from the axils of leafy bracts towards the top of the stem. Its bloom time is somewhat short, 2 - 3 weeks in May or June, but its attractive foliage make it a beautiful plant especially grown in masses all season long. It is an endangered plant in some states, and it is not often found growing in the wild.

PENSTEMON (BEARDTONGUE):
Penstemon is a large genus of flowering plants with approximately 280 different species that are native to only North and Central America. Most penstemons have a durable woody stem, opposite leaves, and tubular shaped flowers. Its most distinctive feature is a prominent hairy staminode visible in the mouth of the corolla, which gives the general appearance of an open mouth with a fuzzy tongue, hence the common name "beardtongue." Penstemons are quite hardy, and are often used in xeriscape landscaping, as many species are native to desert or alpine regions.
Returns of standard seed mixes and individual species must be made in the original unopened packaging within 10 days of delivery. If you wish to return live plants, you must do so within 5 days of delivery. Returns of standard mixes, individual species, and live plants are subject to a restocking fee of 25%. Custom seed mixes may not be returned. When returning non-damaged goods, the buyer is responsible for shipping charges, and return shipping may be made by whatever means the buyer selects.
