Desmodium illinoense - Illinois Tick Trefoil
Illinois Tick Trefoil (Desmodium illinoense) is a herbaceous perennial. Its central stem is covered with fine hooked hairs, and has alternate compound leaves that are trifoliate. The stems terminate into an elongated cluster of small purple flowers with only a few in bloom at the same time. The flowers are replaced by flat 1-3 inch seedpods that have 3-9 segments, and are covered with hairs that cling to clothing or fur. The plant's genus name Desmodium means "long chain," a reference to its unique segmented seedpods.

Desmodium is a genus of plants in the legume family, and consists of approximately 21 species. Several species have been known to release organic compounds both aerially and into the soil that can improve soil fertility via nitrogen fixation. Desmodium plants are also a good food source for wildlife, such as, bobwhite, quail, turkey, grouse, deer, cattle, and goats. Desmodium are known to be hardy plants, and can be grown in a wide range of conditions and environments.
Returns of standard seed mixes and individual species must be made in the original unopened packaging within 10 days of delivery. If you wish to return live plants, you must do so within 5 days of delivery. Returns of standard mixes, individual species, and live plants are subject to a restocking fee of 25%. Custom seed mixes may not be returned. When returning non-damaged goods, the buyer is responsible for shipping charges, and return shipping may be made by whatever means the buyer selects.
