Blue Wild Indigo (Baptisia australis) forms a woody base, and is a large bush-like perennial. It has attractive blue-green foliage with a shrub-like growth habit and turns a silvery-gray in the fall. It produces dense clusters of blue-purple flowers that are pea-like on upright 4-16 inch long terminal spikes and are followed by black seed pods. In its first few years, this long-lived plant develops mostly below ground, but after the first couple years the blooms become more pronounced as the plant matures.

BAPTISIA (FALSE OR WILD INDIGO):
Baptisia are large, long-lived, low maintenance perennials with around 20 species native to eastern or midwestern North America. The name comes from the Greek word bapto, "to dip" or "to dye," which both Native Americans and settlers used the plants to produce colored dye. Its flowers are held in impressive upright racemes composed of pea-shaped flowers, and after bloom bean-like pods form that turn green to black once mature. They provide an extended season of interest from its foliage, flowers, and seed pods.
Returns of standard seed mixes and individual species must be made in the original unopened packaging within 10 days of delivery. If you wish to return live plants, you must do so within 5 days of delivery. Returns of standard mixes, individual species, and live plants are subject to a restocking fee of 25%. Custom seed mixes may not be returned. When returning non-damaged goods, the buyer is responsible for shipping charges, and return shipping may be made by whatever means the buyer selects.
